There are several kinds of nursing profession, from nurse assistant to registered nurses and nursing practitioners, with varying degrees of responsibilities and salaries. They may work in a wide range of settings, including but not limited to hospitals, doctor’s offices, patient homes, and emergency rooms, in collaboration with other health care professionals. Available Campus: Merritt College Offered Certification: Certificate of Achievement, Associate of Science Median Salary: $38K - 102K (Nursing Assistant to Registered Nurse) Program Options Certified Nurse Assistant Home Health Aide Program The Certified Nurse Assistant Home Health Aide curriculum consists of 2 units of training in taking care of students and prepares students for obtaining California’s Nurse Assistant/ Home Health Aide certificate. Vocational Nursing Program The Vocational Nursing curriculum consists of 50 units of classes and is designed to prepare the student to practice intelligent care at the bedside, to assist in the rehabilitation of the sick and the prevention of disease, and to prepare the student for his/her role in the community as a contributing citizen, according to the basic principles of health and nursing. The Vocational Nursing curriculum is accredited by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners. Graduates of this program are eligible to apply for the California state examination to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Vocational Nursing Program → AS Degree in Vocational Nursing → LVN Certification Associate Degree Nursing Program The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program consists of 81 units and prepares students for beginning positions in Registered Nursing. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the state licensing examination for registered nurses. The course of study includes instruction in applied nursing sciences, related natural and social/behavioral sciences, and clinical nursing experience in hospitals and healthcare facilities located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
